Great question!  The 1/2" thick will certainly provide enhanced comfort and cushioning while standing on the mat.  However, there is a noticeable difference between the standard 1/2" version and the extra thick 7/8" version, even when standing for short periods of time.  We typically recommend the thicker version for people who stand for longer lengths of time or those looking for the ultimate in terms of comfort.  You certainly wouldn't be disappointed in the standard 1/2" option which still provides superior fatigue relief to the muscles and joints in the neck, back, legs and feet compared to standing on the bare floor!
